When we lived in small tribal communities artistic expression was a large part of life. With the advent of greater materialism, we’ve increasingly gotten more disconnected from our creativity. With the average person more depleted than vitalised by their jobs it has become easier to be a receptacle consuming other people’s creative work than engaging in our own.
Henry David Thoreau was due to inherit his fathers’ pencil factory where he could live a life of ease. Instead, he retreated from modernity to determine what he would most like to do and how he’d like to live.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson put it, "Thoreau declined to give up his large ambition of knowledge and action for any narrow craft or profession, aiming at a much more comprehensive calling, the art of living well.”
In living simply by Walden pond, he took up writing as a way to capture his thoughts and reflections. In doing so, he found his vocation as an author and a speaker.
Creative expression can reveal our vocations or it can be enjoyed as a core element of a rich life. It can also be a tool that helps us with self-understanding and bypasses the conscious mind which has become overly cherished and hyper stimulated. Our art retreat can assist with each of these aspects.

Creative Retreat
The retreat was exactly what I needed. My facilitator was calming and knowledgeable. I felt completely heard and understood. The round dwelling house is filled with heart warming art, books, cards and yoga/meditation items. I decided to switch off from the outside world and found a wealth of various teachings on my consciousness journey. The fresh wholesome food provided was delicious. I was also given plenty of time to myself to soak everything in my own time. I will definitely be back for many of the other events or retreats available here. I highly recommend it.
