Have you come across that phrase by Jack Kerouac, where he speaks about the people he was drawn to while road-tripping across the country, “The ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars.”
Passionate, vital people prove magnetic because each of us desires to live fully and intensely. The only thing better than spending time with vibrant people is to become vibrant yourself. The joy exuding from people such as the Dalai Lama, or Ellen DeGeneres is infectious. Take the time to look at their life’s journey and you’ll find that it was a process for them to find that inner radiance. Despite an age of instant gratification and quick fixes, happiness continues to be an inside job.
Unfortunately, many people are drawn to the Tarot in the same way we get drawn to comfort food, empty television programs or other escapes. They dearly want to be told that their life is going to be wonderful and everything will work out in their favour without any effort on their part.
Instead of engaging with the empowering theme of the Hero Archetype, they opt for the Orphan Archetype, which retreats into victimhood or fantasy thinking that requires no personal participation in an outcome. Lacking love, it’s easy to dream of being rescued by a prince (codependency), or lacking money, imagining a lottery win is more rewarding than dealing with the fact that one fails to practice discipline, forward planning or delayed gratification.
Carl Jung once pointed out that, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” Becoming aware of your Unconscious mind and its messages for you is very valuable. But it is only when we act on things that our circumstances change.
Take a common, real world example. Let’s say a spread reveals a theme of having a manipulative, narcissistic partner in your life. This may show up as The Queen of Swords whose shadow side is that of a master game player, liar, manipulator who believes their own delusions. The symbolism is shared with a client who then goes on to talk about having a controlling or abusive partner. Maybe they knew that very clearly before they came.

Having now received further confirmation and having it present as their most pressing issue to deal with, do they leave the reading intent on setting new boundaries and breaking the cycle, or do they continue the same pattern? More enlightened thinking coupled by action is a powerful force.
Joseph Campbell maintained that, “If you want to change the world, you have to change the metaphor.” Taking the actions of the Warrior, Hero, Seeker or some other empowered Archetype is a sure way to move from ignorance, through awareness to an empowered life. Our culture may be characterised by the Orphan, but you needn’t follow the mold. The Tarot is a great tool to show how your past is affecting you today and helps clarify where you are now, in order to better deal with things and prepare you for a more satisfying future.
Using the cards with my intuition, I help people understand the energetic forces in their lives, and suggest how to better use them to accomplish their goals and overcome obstacles. Ultimately, my intention is to see you living your most authentic, enriched, vital and empowered life.
Jung once had an epiphany where it struck him what it means to live with a myth, and what it means to live without one. He regarded it as his task of tasks to find his myth. He found it was to be a teacher, guide and author who not only lived a complete life, he bettered the lives of countless others.

Learning tarot is a wonderful way to understand yourself better as you recognise archetypal behaviours within yourself. It is also a great tool to exercise your psychic muscle as well as gift loved ones with readings.
